On the Redcliffe Poker run I met a gentleman named Macca with a heart of gold. He donated some items for a raffle and requested that the money go to a good cause. The Publican, Ian, of the Country Life Hotel, Kin Kin also threw in some items for the raffle. We were not sure just what would meet Macca's criteria of a good cause but we were sure that something would come to us. While the tickets were being sold we heard of local 5 year old boy called Beau who had leukemia and his parents who needed some help.
To cut a long story short the raffle raised $200 which was presented to Beau's sister. She then rang Mum in tears and told her what happened. Mum and Dad brought Beau down to meet us. When we heard he was coming down it was proposed that we do a quick whip around for the odd gold coin or two to boost the $200.
Beau's story touched all those big tough bike riders and the whip around raised another $440. When I went to make the presentation to Beau's parents I found that I had a tear in my eye and found it hard to speak as the generosity of this group of Ulyssians overwhelmed me. There appeared to be few tears on the faces of those around me as we met Beau. It made me damn proud to be a member of a club that can rally to help someone they didn't know till 1 hour before hand.
To Macca, Tony (Manager of the Country Life Hotel) and all those members who were there I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for your generosity and humanity. The support shown by you made an ordinary old poker run a real special event which will stay with me as a very cherished memory. Thanks guys & girls you are the people who make this club such a fantastic experience.
